The St Mary’s Leyton Churchyard Project

Harry Phillips who was born and lived in Leyton as man and boy, but died in Belgium.  He is remembered on his father’s gravestone and on a memorial board at the west end of St Mary’s Church.

Thomas Henry Alexander the son of a Berkshire gardener who joined the Artists Rifles Officers Training Corps.  

Charles Stanley Garnsworthy born into a Devonshire seafaring family.  His ship went missing in an Arctic storm on war service.

Albert Edward Austin, one of the many men of fighting age who died of flu.
